Fraternity, Spirituality, and Service

The GU Knights of Columbus, in accordance with the Jesuit tradition, believe that in meditation “we bring the intellect into action in order to think and the will in order to stir the deeper affections.” We believe that fraternity enhances spirituality and service, which in turn raises our awareness of God and the Church. For more information on these three pillars upon which our organization stands, visit “Fraternity”, “Spirituality”, or “Service” to read some reflections written by our very own Knights.

Who Are the Knights?

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See who are at least 18 years old. A practical Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church. A candidate is considered a “Knight” after taking his First Degree, but he is encouraged to advance through the Second and Third Degrees and on to the Fourth Degree. The candidate is considered a full “Knight” upon completion of the Third Degree. The members of the Fourth Degree promote the virtue of patriotism by serving in honor guards, color corps and promoting respect for the country and the flag. The candidate for the Knights of Columbus takes part in initiation degrees that explain the four principles of the organization:

  • Charity
  • Unity
  • Fraternity
  • Patriotism

The Georgetown University Knights of Columbus is a College Council and stands as a pillar of the Catholic faith on campus. The Knights offer an organization which provides fraternal as well as spiritual opportunities to its members.

Education is the only key of success in the current world of technology. Parents send their children in different types of schools, some are Government schools and some are Independent schools. Boys and girls are equally admitted in these schools, but some time there is hesitation of sending girl child in a school. However, world is totally changed and the people mentality is also changed. But first we will talk about the Independent schools.

Those schools which have their independent finance and management are called as independent schools. An Independent school is also called as private school they mostly provide primary and secondary level education. These schools depends on the funds collected by tuition fees. Board of directors are the key administrator of these schools. Some independent schools also offer boarding facilities.

The main aim of these schools is to provide a better education to their students, with which they can compete any of the big competition. Independent schools have the right to choose their students. Some students due to their performance acquired scholarships in these private schools, with which their fees turned cheaper. Scholarship is totally depend up on the student talent.
Teachers who are teaching in these independent schools are getting higher salary, these schools also provide low students in comparison to teacher ratio. AS these private schools are not geting any financial support from the government, they are totally free to develop their own management and curriculum standards, these schools have their own admission process which is mandatory for everyone

When you are looking for girls school for your girl, then there are few things which you need to check before admitting your girl child in it. It is essential to take suggestion of different parents who have their child studying in these schools, they will give you the true information about the standard of that school, their teaching staff support, students variety and finally a good environment. In the initial it would be hard for your girl child to adjust with teachers and new colleagues, but soon when they mingle with others, they even don’t want to come back their home for holidays.

There are various girls schools which offer boarding facility and give their full concentration on their students overall development. In every section, whether it is arts, sports and the academic section, teachers always give them 100 percent support and guidance to become a perfect student.

Turning back to old times

What can be more exciting than seeing your old college mates again, after years of being away in the big world doing your own thing? Meeting with university friends and classmates has always been fun and entertaining. Some people love telling stories about their personal lives and sharing secrets of their success. Others tell of their professional experiences or travels or time spent abroad as an au pair and the exciting things they have learnt during the experience. Many people find long lost contacts during university reunions and it can bring new life to both personal and professional experiences. It is interesting to see how guys who flunked class and failed papers have become top in their area of business while those who were top of the class went to become domesticated housewives with three kids to care for. College reunions come in many shapes and forms and there are many activities to do during them. Some universities hold events for a couple of days which include meetings with professors and visits to classrooms where they had spent so much time studying and making friends. There may be concerts and shows, speeches are told and of course there are parties and celebrations in fancy restaurants.
